TFI plays an essential role in the growth and promotion of the Canadian fashion community by helping fledgling designers develop the creative and professional capacity they need to thrive and survive in the challenging world of fashion.
So how does the TFI help a budding fashion entrepreneur? We start by providing a nurturing environment where fashion start-ups can learn the business of fashion through strategic programs and business consulting, mentoring, educational sector-specific seminars, export development webcasts, sales clinics, shared work space, in-house design studios, exclusive promotional and sales opportunities, valuable sales and marketing resources and leads, and volunteer programs. Because we recognize the different needs you'll have at different stages in your fashion business or career, we offer two ways of becoming a TFI member: Outreach and Resident.
OUTREACH: Want to start a fashion business, but not sure where to begin? Start with us! Anyone can join the TFI as an Outreach member. It's a great way for new fashion designers, small business owners, start-ups and fashion students to get the inside information they need about the fashion industry. RESIDENT: Ready for the next step? For full-time, professional apparel and accessory designers, stylists and other fashion entrepreneurs, TFI offers a nurturing, co-operative and cost-effective work environment where you can get your business off the ground. We work hand-in-hand with Residents to help them get their businesses up and running. As a TFI Resident, you'll get semi-private studio space, access to industrial equipment, mentoring and consultations with TFI staff and experienced industry professionals as well as exclusive promotional opportunities. The TFI is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, advised by an Advisory Committee and staffed by the Executive Director and Office Assistants.
