Breakfast with the Stylistas

Sonja Andic, a write and photographer with Torontostreetfashion.com, recently visited Toronto's Drake Hotel, where the city's fashion insiders were checking out what Canada's newly hatched designers have in store for spring. We asked Andic to give us a peek at what influential fashion folk really wear. Here, a few of them show and tell.

It's barely fall, but at the Toronto Fashion Incubator Media & Buyers' Breakfast, industry insiders were already thinking spring while perusing the racks of up-and-coming Canadian clothing and accessory labels. The annual event is hosted by the TFI, a business centre for new fashion designers and entrepreneurs that boasts such alumni as Pina Ferlisi, David Dixon and Arthur Mendonca.

The event is fashion catnip for the city's top stylists, fashion journalists, boutique owners and big name buyers, who drop by to caffeinate and gossip while browsing the racks, hoping to discover the next big name in Canadian fashion.

This year, along with perennial indie faves like Hyphen, Lux & Luster, Wonderlust and Karamea, there were spring collections from new comers like Green Shag, a bespoke shirt line that also does funky enamel Canadiana cufflinks; Monikque, who creates showstopping hand-cut organza and crystal necklaces; and Ropena, the luxe St. Tropez-inspired collection by a former Gucci gal.
