On June 26, 2012, TFI hosted an informative presentation from 24 Seven, a leading talent recruitment agency for all areas of fashion, based in New York, NY. Speakers Ricardo Alvar (below), chief business development officer, and Jennifer Koh (below right), senior account manager, shared excellent advice and direction with those interested in landing a fashion dream job or hoping to change careers.

Key facts and tips included:
 The most sought-after jobs in fashion right now are in e-commerce; there is more demand than applicants
 To transition from a design or production background to e-commerce, re-education is highly recommended however sometimes large firms will promote from within the organization
 24 Seven screens 150,000 resumes a year!
 When developing a resume, highlight measurable accomplishments where you helped your employer to make money, save money and increase market share
 When preparing for an interview, dress to fit in with the existing corporate culture
 Upon arrival at your interview, be nice to the receptionist and assistant; they have much more influence than you think
 Anyone looking for a job should have a LinkedIn profile

4. The Future Of Retailing
The Future of Retailing in the Americas to 2016, a report developed by ReportLinker.com, captures the shift to new channels depending on the country, the effects of recession, and shifting consumer behaviour thereby providing timely analysis of the retail markets. Data sets are provided for 2006 through to 2016, with actuals being provided for 2011.

Category coverage encompasses 25 products across eight product groups that include apparel, accessories and luxury goods, books, news and stationery, electronics, food and grocery, furniture and floor coverings, home and garden products, music, video and entertainment software, and sports and leisure equipment. It covers 17 channels across four channel groups that include general retailers, specialist retailers, value retailers and online retailers.

Marketers and retailers can use the information to assess the retail trade overall and to know which channels are showing growth for which products in the coming years.

Key Highlights
 The share of North American countries (U.S. and Canada), in the total American retail sales, is expected to decline from nearly 80% in 2006 to less than 70% by 2016.
 Retail sales in the U.S. have expanded j.t around 2% annually since 2006 to the end of 2011.
 The combined share of Brazil and Mexico, in the total American retail sales, is expected to increase from under 15% in 2006 to nearly 20% by 2016. This is broadly driven by a double-digit annual growth in Brazil.

The report is based on extensive, cross-country, industry research that examines the components of change in the market by looking at historic and future growth patterns, including how changes in consumer behaviour have affected the retail sector for different product categories and channels. The global recession and the following recovery period have had an impact on consumers' discretionary spending and retail markets have been no exception. While the country-by-country market changes have varied, nowhere has been left totally untouched.
